Brown paper board binding with green cloth spine. Title at the front board. Yellow end papers. Worn board edges. Binding somewhat stained and browned. The paste downs miscolored by old glue. The book block loose. The occasional finger dirt to the margins. Some guard papers creased.
An interesting book containing plates of the theatrical artists of the 1870s in Sweden. The plates are very decorative and shows the actors in well known costumes of famous theatrical acts. The publishing history of this book is quite confused. It seems that few copies contains the same plates. Variants of the same plates also exists. For example the plate of Fredrika Stenhammar can be found in three different states. The copies in the Swedish Royal Library have, all together, 17 different plates (including the three states of Fredrika Stenhammar). No copy with 17 plates alone. One has 15 plates. The present copy contains 12 plates including two states of Fredrika Stenhammar (one pasted to the back board). There might still be unknown plates to be discovered. A complete copy should also contain at least 7 leafs of text (the Royal Library copy), maybe more. There are two different printings of the present text page "Overture". According to one of the copies in the Royal Library the present printing should have been cancelled.
