Large margins. One brown spot. Fine condition.

A beautiful hand colored map of Sigtuna and its environs, a town in the district of Uppland just north of Stockholm. Insets of the central part of town and two outlaying areas. There is also statistical tables of land use and population. The map was shown and approved by the town council in 1857. The map was then published in "Atlas öfver Sveriges Städer" (Atlas of swedish towns) in 1862, which contained 89 maps. The map was also sold as a single sheet. Gustaf Ljunggren started to work on the maps to the atlas in the early 1850s. In 1855 the publishing house Bonniers bought the rights and continued the work under Ljunggrens superintendence. The same year some of the maps were awarded at the World Exposition in Paris. The government supported the project by guaranteeing a purchase of 1.300 copies of each map. All the maps were colored by "Koloröser", women cololorists, in a a wonderful mild tone.
