A very decorative blind pressed binding in in gilt, red and black. The title and four depictions in gilt on the front board. Binding a bit loose. Bumped corners with wear. A small spot on the title page and the foreword leaf. Some of the text plates with offsetting from the plates, as usual. Nice and clean plates. The book is in much better condition than the average copy.
Charming lithographs of the town of Upsala in Sweden, the oldest university town in Scandinavia and the seat of the archbishop. Due to the fine quality of the images many of these albums have been broken to be framed. The first edition with 12 partly different plates was published in 1870. The lithographs were drawn and lithographed by Alexander Nay, a productive and skilled artist who executed many important plate books in Sweden and Denmark. Some examples are "Sverige Framstäldt i Taflor" 1856, "Herregårdar uti Södermanland" 1869 and "Uplands Herregårdar" 1881.
