Probaly early 1800s. 20 x 25 cm. Wash painting (lavering).
A few minor brown spots and creases. Nice condition.
An illustration to the song "På lifvets mödosamma stråk". A strophe in the song reads "Förkortad blir den långa dag". It is a copy after either Sergel or Ehrensvärd. Both of them made similar illustrations to the song in 1797 (now in The national Museum of Fine Art / Nationalmuseum). The painting is signed by Carpelan in the lower right corner. Wilhelm Maxmilian Carpelan (1787- 1830) was an officer, engraver and map maker. He is best known for his wonderful views of the mountains of Norway.
