[1704] 19 x 17 cm. Title + Contents leaf + 99 engraved maps + 3 tables. Most maps coloured in outline, a few uncoloured. The content calls for 101 leaves, this atlas has an extra map of Russia numbered 102.

The upper part of the flap missing. Spine ends defective with some loss. A fragmeneted green textile band has been sewn to the end of the flap at some later date. About 30 maps with waterstains in the margins. Circa 15 of them into the image areas. Map 14 with a small area with very thin paper.

A beautiful original limp calf wallet style atlas. It has cetainly been carried in a large coat pocket or saddle bag back in the day. The atlas has that charming patina and sweeps you away to a different time with its irresistible flavour. It is basically an European atlas with a few double hemisphere and single hemisphere maps. Also a continental map of Europe. It has a couple of particulary beautiful maps of the Mediteranean (one fold out) and Gibraltar. Many maps have decorative geographical information in the margins. Book plate of Johan von Rajalin. Owner inscriptions by H. Rieke 1738 and Carl Gustaf Uggla 1849.
