An interesting atlas of Stockholm published just after the turn of the century when the city was in one of its most expansive periods. It is very detailed, every block is named and each property meticulously numbered. Planned streets and developments are highlighted, some of them were never built or delayed for a century, such as the western part of Kungsholmen which has only very recently been developed. On the other hand, new sections of northern Vasastan is clearly laid out and was in fact being built up when the atlas was published, but with alterations in comparison to the atlas. Another interesting feature is that the city limit incorporate only the westernmost part of Djurgården and cuts right through Garnisonen at Linnégatan. The carthographer Alfred Bentzer worked for the Stockholm Planning Board and created the first edition of this atlas in 1899. The atlas is an endless source of information and inspiration.
