[Art Design] Stoecklin, Niklaus

Wasserman S & A Bale (Basel) 1941. 33 x 23,5 cm. Lithographic print.

Laid down on card board. A few small notches in the upper part of the image. Some chafing which is mostly seen in sidelight.

Binaca is one of the most recognized images by the Swiss artist and ad designer Niklaus Stoecklin. He was a master of hyper realistic air brushed images printed with highly developed lithographic techniques giving clear and crisp colours. He was influenced by Art Deco, Surrealism and eventually became a standard bearer for the New Objectivity. His pictures have no slogans or text, the presented product should stand for itself, and Binaca sure does. In my opinion he is a forerunner to Pop Art. This work is represented at MOMA and other major art museums. This is a window displayer, it was also printed as a large poster. The picture was obtained from a collection that belonged to an employee at the Swedish Museum of Modern Art (Moderna Museet).
