Peep show.
[Augsburg] [Ca. 1750] 3 hand coloured segments to a peep show. Ca. 20 x 26 cm. Not complete. The back drop is missing and there should be more segments, as well as a box to set them up for display.
A couple of small dents and spots. Very nice condition.
The segments depicts a road through a park with large trees and boulders at the sides. A flock of sheep can be seen at two of the segments. Riders, carriages and pedestrians are also present. A man made water fall is depicted at a crossroad. The peep show first surfaced during the renaissance, and became popular at fairs and other events througout the following centuries. A peep show box was used to display the segments. In the 19th. century it was developed into an accordion style folding apparatus. Rare.
