Four early german lithographs by Johann Nepomuk Strixner after originals by Rafael. In 1808 Strixner published lithographs after Dürers drawings, which was the first publication of drawings by Dürer. This work proved the reproductive as well as the artistic capacity of lithography and had great influence on illustrators of the 19th. century. The present lithographs are probably published for "Les Oeuvres Lithographiques", which was issued in Munich 1811-1816 in 72 parts, each containing 6 plates. The lithographic incunabula period is 1796 to 1821.
