The plate depict a christening in a country church in the district of Södermanland. It was lithographed after an original by Josef Wilhelm Wallander and published for the work "Bilder ur svenska folklifvet". The plate is accompanied by a descriptive text leaf in swedish, german and english. The captions at the plate are also in three languages. This is a fine example of an early colour printed lithograph of high quality. Arnz & Co. was one of the leading firms in this area. Wallander was one of the main painters of the Düsseldorf School of painting in Sweden. In 1864-65 Bonniers published "Svenska Folket, som det ännu lefver wid elfwom, på berg och i dalom", an album containing 17 lithographs after Wallanders paintings.It was a sequel to "Bilder ur svenska folklifvet", building on the popularity of Wallander.
