A couple of minor spots to the margins. Very nice condition.
The plate depict religious sectarians meeting in the woods at night . It was lithographed after an original by Josef Wilhelm Wallander and published for the work "Bilder ur svenska folklifvet". The plate is accompanied by a descriptive text leaf in swedish, german and english. The captions at the plate are also in three languages. This is a fine example of an early colour printed lithograph of high quality. Arnz & Co. was one of the leading firms in this area. Wallander was one of the main painters of the Düsseldorf School of painting in Sweden. In 1864-65 Bonniers published "Svenska Folket, som det ännu lefver wid elfwom, på berg och i dalom", an album containing 17 lithographs after Wallanders paintings. It was a sequel to "Bilder ur svenska folklifvet", building on the popularity of Wallander.
