Contemporary half calf binding. Marbled boards. Very worn and rubbed binding. Upper and lower spine is missing. Bumped corners. The binding is loose. Front fly leaf is missing. A few stains and slight browning to the margins of the maps. A few creases. Back fly leaf with some chipping and creases. The maps are in quite good condition.
A swedish historical world atlas in two parts. The first part "Gamla Tiden" (The Ancient Time) is printed in colors and the second part "Medeltiden och Nyare Tiden" (The Middle Ages and the Newer Times ) is hand colored. The atlas has its very own characteristic compared to most contemporary atlases.- with several insets and different lay outs. The hand colored part has lovely toned down pastel colors. Each part has a separate title. Mentzer was the architecht behind a number of swedish atlases and maps in the second half of the 19th. century. In 1856 Mentzer and Wiberg published their famous "Atlas till Sveriges Historia" a historic atlas of Sweden. In 1860 Mentzer published a geographical world atlas in folio.
