A photograph by the english photographer Robert Jefferson Bingham (1825-1870) depicting a print executed by Jean Leon Gerome (1824-1904). Bingham worked for the most part in France as a portrait- and art photographer. He was one of the first to use the collodion method and claims that he was the inventor. He is not alone to have made that claim. The photo was produced by the great french publishing house Goupil for the work "Galerie Photographique" which first appeared in 1858 and continued into the 20th. century, eventually comprising more than 1800 plates. This plate is numbered 27 and an early example of photographic art reproduction. Galerie photographique is of high quality and merged the new technique of photography with the ancient idea of art reproduction with great success. From the estate of Emil Hultmark.
