Basil, sold by James [Jakob] Decker, Bookseller, 1802. 18,5 x 25 cm. 6 etched plates in an original wrapper, sewn as issued. Title printed at the wrapper (no title leaf published).
Partly uncut plates. Some creases and dirt to the wrapper. A small loss int the lower right corner of the front cover. The sewing is starting to come loose. A faint water stain to Lake of Lawez and Lake of Brientz. Very light foxing to the plate margins. The book is In a wonderful original state.
A typical Grand Tour publication, printed in english in Basel, depicting mountains, lakes and waterfalls. The plates are as follows: Lake of Lawerz, Lake of Brientz, Reichenbach, Staubach, Lake of the Four Cantons and Glacier of Grindewald. The views were etched by Friedrich Christian Reinermann after originals by Pierre (Peter) Birmann who is well known for the great work "Voyage pittoresque de Basl, par les vallons de Mottier-Grandval". Scarce.
