Blue wrapper with printed title inside a decorative frame. Some tears and a small paper loss to the wrapper. One plate with a couple of small stains. Plates in very nice condition.
Portraits of swedish rulers from the middle ages up to Oscar I, who was king when the work was published. Unusal to find sovereigns before Gustav Wasa in 19th century plate books. Here we have ten rulers before Gustav including Marghareta, Erik XIII, Christopher af Bayern, Christian I, Johan II, Carl VIII, Sten Sture d. ä., Svante Sture, Sten Sture d. y. and Christian II. The images are printed on china paper and laid down on heavier paper. The work was published as a separate plate volume as well as a part of the larger work "Kongeriket Sverrigs Regenter fra Margaretha til Oscar den förste", published in 1850-1854. The swedish royal library gives 1856 with a question mark, as the publishing year for the plate volume. Both the Swedish Royal Library and the Danish Royal Library calls for 28 plates, which the present copy contains. The plates were litographed by A. M. Petersen. A scarce work from Reuterdahls printing shop in Malmö.
