Pullman city was built in the 1880s as a company town for the Pullman Palace Car Company on the south side of Chicago. A very modern town for its time with plumbing and gas. George Pullman, the owner of the company, believed that happy workers would be more productive and less interested in striking. After some years the town was incorporated into Chicago, as that town expanded. The town is now declared a Naional Monument, much appreciated for its very well preserved victorian buildings. Gentrification is ongoing. The photo of Hotel Florence is used as portal picture for the Pullman Museum Website.
