[Poster]

Sandvikens Jernverk 1897

Schmidt & Rendahl Jönköping (Jönköpings Lit. Aktiebolags Fabr.) 61 x 80 cm. Colour lithograph.

The poster is a bit wavy, needs to be pressed. A couple of creses and corner folds. A minor stain in the water in front of the factory.

This spectacular poster was published for the 1897 industrial fair in Stockholm to promote Sandvikens Järnver, at a time when the company was ascending as one of the most succesfull ironworks in Europe. The poster show the factory in the foreground and beyond we see the town of Sandviken laid out in a grid pattern inspired by American city planning. Sandviken was founded in 1862 as a company town to serve the new factory. The founder, Göran Fredrik Göransson, had travelled in the United States and was especially inspired by the urban expansion of Chicago. A rare item.
