In his work Monumenta Cartographica published in 1925-1935, the scholar Dr. F. C. Wieder describes Vingboon as one of the more important dutch cartographers of the 17th century. Vingboon`s maps and work were for the first time reproduced and described in that work. The famous Leo Bagrow discovered the present four manuscript maps in a private collection in Sweden and had them reproduced for the present work in 1948. They were most likely drawn in 1650-1670. The four maps are of the same size and a complete set in itself. Most other maps by Vingboon are of different sizes. The four maps shows the North Polar Area, the South Polar Area, The Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. They show all, at that time, known, coast lines and islands of the world. A very interseting and important set.
